Area map and traffic information
Läntinen Rantakatu is closed to traffic between Martinsilta bridge and Forum Marinum apart from maintenance and entry to properties. One of the lanes at Martinsilta bridge will be closed so that the harbour side lane will be reserved for light transport.
Parking during the event
Parking is available in the public parking areas and parking halls. It is convenient to arrive at the event by public transport if possible, as the surrounding area will become easily crowded.
A chargeable secured parking area can be found at the Martin koulu school yard (address: Hopeasepänkuja 2) between 20 and 23 July, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Surveillance organised by LC Turku Merileijonat ry.
Another secured parking area can be found at Ruissalontie where a water treatment plant used to be lo-cated, and surveillance is organised by LC Turku Suikkila and LC Turku Ilpoinen. The walking distance from the area to the Tall Ships Races event area is a bit over one kilometre. There is also a possibility to use a bus service free of charge, via the Market Square. This parking space is supervised from Thursday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m and on Sunday 23 July from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Driving off the parking space is possible every day until 10 p.m.
Parking costs 5€/car/day. Earnings from parking area surveillance go to charity, to help protect the Baltic Sea.
The third secured parking area can be found in Harppuunakortteli (the Harpoon Quarter, entrance from Vallihaudankatu). The parking area is open between 19 July and 23 July from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the parking costs 15 euros per car per day.
Due to the crowded access routes, cycling in the event area is prohibited for safety reasons. A secured bicycle parking area can be found at Boren puisto park. There are also unsupervised bicycle parking areas on Unioninkatu and at the boat works shore on the eastern bank of the river.
Boat traffic on the River Aura
The Aurajoki river is closed to normal boat traffic during the entire event. This does not apply to boats used by the authorities, commercial charter traffic, event organisers’ boats and those with special permits. All vessels travelling to the sea must be off of the river on Sunday 23 July by 1:30 p.m.
Turku guest harbour reserved for the Tall Ships Races vessels
The Turku guest boat harbour on the River Aura will be closed to event guests.
Event guests arriving by boat should park at the guest parking places in nearby guest harbours. These in-clude the Ruissalo Marina, the Turku Yacht Club harbour in Ruissalo, the Airisto Segelsällskap harbour at Pikisaari, Turku Yacht Harbour in Satava, the guest harbour in Raisio and Hovirinta in Kaarina. There are also several guest harbours in Naantali.
Use of helicopter cameras above the River Aura
For safety reasons, the use of helicopter cameras above the river and event area is prohibited. This does not apply to those who have received a special permission (media, the organisation’s own filming).
