Turku Jazz City presents: Josefiina Vannesluoma and Mortal Lease

Centenarian poems transform into sensual jazz expressions as interpreted by Josefiina Vannesluoma and her Mortal Lease ensemble. The music of this band, nominated for the Emma Gala’s Jazz Album of the Year, shifts from ecstatic outbursts to restrained elegance. The band’s name and the source of their lyrics come from Edith Wharton’s poetry series ‘The Mortal Lease,’ whose ornate sonnets speak of summer romance and a hunger for life. In Vannesluoma’s compositions, influences from various musical styles blend seamlessly into the earthy storytelling of the jazz ensemble.
