Jazz City Turku presents: Nathan Francis Quintet ft. Vladimir Shafranov

Suomen Joutsen Stage (Forum Marinum)

Thursday 18

klo 19:30 – 20:30

Bassist Nathan Francis’s third album, The House That Bobby Built, introduces a renewed quintet lineup, featuring the legendary pianist Vladimir “Vova” Shafranov. This classically swinging hard bop quintet, which plays with verve, is finally coming to delight the audience in Turku!

American double bassist Nathan Francis, who has settled in Finland, has a deep connection to the rich heritage of American improvised music in his compositions. Sharing the stage with Francis are his long-time trusted musicians: saxophonist Manuel Dunkel and drummer Aleksi Heinola. Additionally, the ensemble features the young, internationally acclaimed Slovenian trumpeter Vid Šketa. Completing the quintet is pianist legend Vladimir “Vova” Shafranov, who moved from the Soviet Union to Finland in the 1970s and spent several years making an impact in New York. Shafranov bridges the gap between the Finnish jazz scene and the pulsating atmosphere of New York jazz.
