Jazz City Turku presents: Kalevi Louhivuori Quartet feat. Nina Mya: Louis and Ella

In Turku, we dive deep into the birthplace of jazz music with a concert that pays tribute to two jazz giants: singer Ella Fitzgerald and trumpeter-singer Louis Armstrong. Known as “Satchmo,” Armstrong set the course for future jazz improvisation in the 1920s. He developed the scat singing style based on semantically meaningless syllables, with perhaps the most masterful practitioner being Ella Fitzgerald. Both of them were beloved entertainers and favorites of their era. Finnish jazz virtuosos Kalevi Louhivuori, a versatile trumpet master, and Nina Mya, a soulful and sparkling vocalist, step into the shoes of Louis and Ella, backed by the rich sound of a top-notch ensemble.
